CELTIC knocked back a cheeky last minute bid from Dundee Utd to take Stephen Welsh on loan for the rest of the season, it has emerged.

SunSport report after Sheffield Wednesday tried and failed to get Celtic to part with their academy defender, Dundee Utd tried their luck in an attempt to bolster their defence.

The Tannadice club were met with a resounding rejection from the Celtic Park hierarchy.

Welsh is part of Celtic’s four centre-backs in the first team. After Moritz Jenz left, Welsh became more important to the squad despite his lack of game time.

The Scottish defender is backup to Carl Starfelt and CCV, however, faces competition with Yuki Kobayashi if either goes down with an injury,

CeltsAreHere understand the club are still open to moving Stephen Welsh on in the summer, but for now didn’t want to part with the centre back.
