It’s not often we see eye to eye with Sky Sports commentator and former Celtic player Davie Provan but as we look where Celtic go from here, there will be more Celtic fans than me agreeing with him.

Provan has used his SunSport column to call for Peter Lawwell’s resignation after the nightmare season got worse this week.

For the record, Provan said he seen nothing wrong with Celtic’s trip to Dubai with so much sport still going on around the world and having followed the proper procedure. He also doesn’t put the boot in over the call offs due to the positive test.

What Provan does think has to happen is for the club to be purged of the old guard who have overseen this whole mess.

Things run their course, successful regimes come to an end and for the people inside the bubble, they cling to the power they have and can’t see the forest for the trees.

Celtic fans know the season is over, what they want now is action, leadership and count ability.

Provan writes:

“Between now and the end of the season, Lennon will be the whipping boy for angry punters. But Celtic’s problems go all the way to the top.

“Had to laugh when hearing Lawwell urge supporters to help “take this magnificent football club as far as we possibly can”.

“He’s right, it is a magnificent club. But it’s no longer in the right hands. The game is up Peter. Please go now.”
