Former Celtic scout Andy Ritchie has been surveying the probability of Odsonne Edouard leaving Celtic before next week’s transfer deadline.

Ritchie knows all the ins and outs of the transfer market and will have a fair idea of what the club and player are thinking at this moment.

The transfer window closes on October 5th, at which point, Celtic will know for sure what they will have at their disposal for the first half of the season at least. The speculation keeps on coming but Odsonne has remained a Celtic player to this point.

Asked if he believes the Celtic striker will still be at Parkhead next week, Ritchie told RecordSport: “For the supporters and the club, this would not be the right time for Odsonne Edouard to be leaving. He went to France and played a couple of games, then was unavailable. That could suggest, for lack of a better phrase, he is working his ticket.

“But I don’t think you could honestly put your hand on your heart and say that’s what he’s doing. If Edouard’s had some turmoil with speculation or something has rung his chime, financially or in football terms, he’s only a young fella and it’s difficult when that goes on.

“I think he’ll stay. I’m quite prepared to give Odsonne Edouard the benefit of the doubt. Form is temporary, you can’t work when injured and I think he’ll be there for the season.”

Celtic value Edouard highly, to this point, nobody has met the club’s valuation of the French forward.

Supporters are desperate to see Eddy stay and let’s hope Ritchie’s prediction is spot on.

Celtic have a punishing schedule this season and to do it without their star striker would put their season in jeopardy.

Eddy will likely lead the line against Sarajevo on Thursday night after being benched for the Hibernian game at the weekend.
