Josip Juranovic took to social media on Monday evening to declare he was proud of his Celtic teammate Daizen Maeda after their head to head at the World Cup.

It was Daizen’s goal that put Croatia and Josip on the brink of elongation from the World Cup before. Second half equaliser took the last 16 tie to extra time then penalties.

Maeda had been subbed off long before the shootout. Japan only managed to score one of their spot kicks and didn’t even get to their fifth in what was a bitterly disappointing end to their impressive campaign.

Juranovic and Maeda embraced after the match, the Croatian hugging it out with his Celtic teammate. On Monday evening, he followed that up by posting how proud he was of the Celtic winger.

Daizen will have some time off now before heading back to Celtic. The Japanese player will miss the Aberdeen game, but could be in contention against Livingston and St Johnstone before Christmas.

Juranovic and Croatia move on to the quarter finals, and it’s unlikely we’ll see Josip back in the Hoops until the end of the year.
