DAVIE PROVAN has made the extreme claim that Peter Lawwell should be working through a list of Neil Lennon replacements as we speak in the event of a full-scale revolt.

The outspoken former Celtic player hasn’t got many positive things to say about Celtic and makes a living trying to be as controversial as possible.

You have to wonder if he believes the things he writes or if it’s just for shock value.

The Sky Sports commentator believes a defeat at Aberdeen today in the early kick-off will put Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell in hot water with the support and when the suits feel the heat, the manager usually pays with his job.

“IF Peter Lawwell isn’t drawing up a shortlist of potential replacements for Neil Lennon, he’s not doing his job.” Provan wrote in his SunSport column.

“Lennon is losing games and the faith of supporters.

“In any other season, Lawwell could sit tight and ignore the noise.

“Not this one. Not with ten-in-a-row fever rampant.

“Lose at Pittodrie and Lawwell will have a full-scale revolt on his hands. When directors feel the heat, the manager usually pays the price.

“Martin O’Neill used to say he was only ever three defeats from a crisis. That’s how it is at the big clubs.”

Neil Lennon has had a rough week, but he has been here before and he deserves a bit more respect than what’s being shown here by Provan.

We always want to hold everyone at the club’s feet to the fire but we also need to lend perspective. Provan speaks about Celtic with no respect, if you listened to the guy, you would never know Celtic have won three trebles in a row and 11 trophies on the bounce.

  1. I wonder if Provan got his comment from this very site…because i made that very same comment, almost verbatim,a few days ago,and i can assure you,i don’t have any anti-Celtic agenda.
Look, everybody called Lawwell a cheap bastard among other things, for not interviewing other potential candidates to replace Rodgers.
If i was owned a business and had yellow carded my manager,i’d have to be an idiot not to have done some serious thinking about a replacement…especially given whats at stake for Celtic.
If there are serious doubts about Lennon (which i believe there are) then we can’t sack him then start scrambling for a new guy. That would be beyond wreckless, and probably fatal for this seasons league challenge.

  2. Begs the question about what turned these explayers against our club, provan, walker, Nicholas, commons to name a few? Really annoying to listen to them spout their garbage week in week out but interesting to find out their gripe? HAIL HAIL?.

  3. Money !!! (Kennymac) Any ex-Celt who works for those agencies and doesn’t become a Judas , gets the boot ! eg. Tosh Mc Kinlay, Michael Stuart etc.
