Gordon Strachan defends Celtic

I don’t know what Charlie Nicholas is smoking but he’s made up a rumour out of thin air.

Speaking about the Premier Sports punditry at the weekend, Nicholas took issue with the way Gordon Strachan defended Celtic.

It’s probably because Charlie finds the concept of defending the club on TV as an alien concept.

Gordon went on an impassioned rant after Celtic were knocked out of the Scottish Cup, having a go at some of the snipers and speculators.

This has led Charlie to believe Gordon is either angling for a job or they have him in mind.

“The way Gordon Strachan has been talking, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a role for him at Celtic.” Nicholas wrote in his express column as cited by SunSport.

“If the club is assessing potential candidates for a technical director or director of football then the likelihood is that he will be under consideration.

“Strachan seems to be the mouthpiece for Celtic just now.

“He is the one who is coming out in the media and really defending the club.

“He also seems to know a lot about what is happening behind the scenes and claimed with a fair degree of certainty that his son Gavin will remain at the club.

“Director of football at Parkhead is clearly a job Gordon would be interested in, even if he is doing a similar role at Dundee at the moment.

“Bringing Strachan back to the club he managed from 2005 to 2009 would also work for majority shareholder Dermot Desmond because he could be the frontman for him.

“Dermot Desmond understands business but he needs people to run the football side.

“That’s why Celtic need to appoint a new manager and director of football as soon as possible.

“Peter Lawwell performed the DoF duties during his tenure as chief executive but he became fragile in that position because bad decisions and calls were made, although it looks like most of them have been laid at the door of Nicky Hammond, who resigned as head of football operations last month.

“Neil Lennon also got his share of the blame.”

There has been no suggestion Gordon Strachan is in line for a return to Celtic.

Anyone who watches the Celtic Pass will know that the former Celtic manager defends the club on a lot of fronts but can be critical at times.

There’s no hidden agenda here with Strachan, it’s just the way he chooses to approach his punditry.

It’s pretty depressing Nicholas believes there’s an angle involved in someone trying to be positive about certain aspects of the club.

This is a guy who found so many negatives during a quadruple treble run. He even called out Edouard for not celebrating enough when he scored.

Unlike Strachan, there is an agenda when it comes to what Charlie has to say because if he doesn’t go negative, he quickly loses relevance.

  1. Listening and reading them both over the years, since after GS stint as Manager, it’s quite easy to seperate them both.

Strachan always refers tho Celtic as , We, and, Us.

    Nicholas, they, and, them.

Do THEY still eat bags of chips when THEY sing The Famine Song, charlie?
