KRIS COMMONS doesn’t have the best things to say about old club when they’re winning so it’s open season for the player turned pundit as he picks over the bones of Celtic’s embarrassing Derby display.

The former midfielder claims Celtic have no identity any more and even with their best side out, they’ve not got going this season.

Celtic lost 2-0, not because of a scintillating performance by their rivals, but an effective and efficient display.

Neil Lennon and his men had no answers as they stifled Celtic on the ball. No imagination, confidence or forward passes for the most part.

It was a day when Celtic never really looked like scoring, the one chance they did get was squandered.

Commons has taken aim at Vasilis Barkas for not being able to come up with big saves. It’s a common theme since Saturday. Is it a witch hunt or do people have a point? Moi was also slaughtered along with Patryk Klimala.

There’s no sugar coating it, Celtic need a reboot and some players need to show their worth.

However, Commons doesn’t seem as critical of the manager as you would expect.

SunSport has cited Commons’ DailyMail column and the rant he went on after the game.

“They [Celtic] seem to have lost their identity. No one is doing anything off the cuff or is being imaginative.

“Watching the ball being rolled back and forth between the defenders and the goalkeeper, it looks like a computer game from the 1980s. It’s as is someone is saying: “That’s what you are programmed for so don’t do anything other than that”. Everything was sideways. It was like watching rugby league.

“For all the world, it reminded me of the latter days of Brendan Rodgers’ time where everything had to be built so slowly up the pitch.

“They haven’t got going this season. Even when they’ve got their strongest starting XI, they are not free-flowing or looking like scoring many goals.

“Without Christie, Forrest and Edouard they were probably always going to struggle up front. But with the amount of money spent, you’d still think they would have enough to put in a performance.

“Mohamed Elyounoussi looked like a rabbit in the headlights. Albian Ajeti looked way off the pace and Patryk Klimala didn’t look like he’d every played football before.

“As for Vasilias Barkas in goal…Can he make one save in a big game? He doesn’t save enough shots, has no presence and doesn’t shout.

“But it wasn’t just the new recruits who were culpable. The midfield three – Scott Brown, Callum McGregor and Olivier Ntcham – are all very good footballers. But is it the right blend?

“Where’s the flair player who can produce something out of nothing? Connor Goldson must have gone through about three cigars in the game.

“It was just so easy. There was nobody running in behind the back four to stretch them. No one coming to feet to show, no one looking to take the ball on the half turn and make defence-splitting passes.

“Fans or no fans, as a Celtic player, you’ve got to look at that Rangers shirt and feel something stir inside you. Yet, I’ve rarely seen either team win a derby so easily.

“Rangers’ game-management was superb. They were just so comfortable.”
