Pundit Michael Stewart appears to be the only pundit willing to question why Bobby Madden gave our city rival’s not one but TWO penalties against Motherwell.

The Ibrox club always appear to get the rub of the green when it comes to spot kicks, so much so the phrase ‘PENALTY TO RANGERS’ is openly mocked and derided online.

Motherwell fell to a heavy defeat in the day but Stewart believes both penalties should not have stood and the second one in particular was a ‘crazy decision’.

“No, I don’t think it is. The law says if the defender is making himself unnaturally big then it is a penalty.

“For a start, the law is a nonsense for me.

“What is Bevis Mugabi meant to do here?

“When you look at the reverse angle he is standing right behind Scott Arfield.

“He is touch tight to him, he’s moving his arm down to actually bring it in towards his body and it strikes his arm. That for me is not a penalty.

On the second penalty awarded to Rangers, he added: “When you watch the Motherwell goal late on here with George Edmundson.

“Everybody says he’s got no time to react.

“Here, Bassey runs across the face of Grimshaw, his arm is literally by his side, it’s a crazy decision.”

The standard of refereeing in this country has been a joke for a long time and Stewart who is more impartial than most has called it like he’s seen it. This has left him open to the sort of disgusting abuse that comes with questioning anything to do with the Ibrox club.

Celtic are just one point off the top of the table with a game in hand after beating Hibernian without a penalty in sight. It was a top performance from the bhoys who look to be upping the ante.
