Former Celtic midfielder Kris Commons has challenged Hoops striker Albian Ajeti to take his ‘now or never’ opportunity.

Speaking to the Scottish Daily Mail, Commons believes that we are yet to see the best of the former West Ham and Basel man. However, it is now his time to take the opportunity in the side, after his double against Ross County last weekend.

“Given that the club paid £5million to sign him from West Ham last year, I think it’s fair to say we’ve yet to see the best of the Swiss striker.

Ajeti came back in pre-season and looked leaner and fitter. He looked sharp and hungry to be part of the squad under Ange Postecoglou.

“Listen, scoring a couple of goals against the likes of Ross County is all well and good, but it’s still too early to say that Ajeti has truly arrived as a Celtic player. Final judgment should be reserved until we are another three or four weeks down the line — because there’s no doubt that Ajeti is now set to be handed his big chance.

“If he can lead the line for Celtic during this period and keep banging in the goals, it’ll prove once and for all that he’s good enough. He has the chance to propel the club forward domestically and in Europe. It’s a chance he simply has to take. It’s now or never for Ajeti in a Celtic jersey.”

With Kyogo Furuhashi’s injury and Giorgos Giakoumakis still getting up to speed in terms of fitness, this feels like the best opportunity that Ajeti will have in the side.

Scoring a double at the weekend will help add to the faith that Ange Postecoglou will have in the frontman as he looks to kickstart his Celtic career.

As a third choice striker, the £5 million man could be a decent option to have.

Now is his time to prove why that is the case, and he can provide cover in Postecoglou’s side, whether that be in the starting 11 or from the bench.
