Go Radio pundit Mark Guidi has heaped praise on Celtic academy prospect Adam Montgomery claiming that he is the closest thing the club has had to former star Kieran Tierney.

The young defender made his breakthrough on the first team towards the back end of last season and is now looking to make himself a regular in Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Speaking on Go Radio, after seeing Montgomery’s appearances in the team so far this season, Guidi believes that Celtic have a talent on their hands and claimed that the 19-year old is the closest player they have had to another academy star, Kieran Tierney.

“At the moment, I would go with Montgomery at left-back. I would give him a run.

“I really like to look of Montgomery. Yeah, you’ll be raw. Yeah, he will make mistakes, but he really looks the part.

“So, I would put the new back four together, including Montgomery, and go with. Give it a chance. Give it a chance to go.

“Montgomery is the closest thing to Kieran Tierney Celtic have had.”

The youngster has had most of his chances from the bench this campaign and has taken the opportunities to impress Postecoglou and the Celtic fans.

He offers the Celtic boss cover in several positions on the pitch, filling in at left-wing on Thursday, and he didn’t look out of place against a good La Liga outfit in Real Betis.

Montgomery looks like he has an exciting future ahead of him, but we should be careful with the comparisons and pressures we put on young players at the club.

I am sure nothing like this would put him off anyway, and he will continue to work hard to keep his place in the side.
