Former Villa frontman Gabriel Agbonlahor believes if the Celtic job came up in the near future, Eddie Howe would be interested in the post.

However, the player turned pundit warned of the pitfalls of the job and how Eddie has never been at a club where winning is expected week in, week out.

Neil Lennon still has the backing of the Celtic board after a dreadful run of form but the speculation surrounding a fresh appointment continues.

Asked by Football Insider whether he thinks Howe would be a good replacement for Lennon, Agbonlahor said: â€œHe definitely has the pedigree.

“But what you’ve got to be careful with that job is, it’s one where the fans demand success.

“We’ve already seen the protests the other night at Celtic Park and we’re only in the first quarter of the season.

“I’m sure Eddie Howe will be interested but I’m sure the Celtic board will want to choose someone who understands what Celtic is about, that they need to win titles.

Eddie has been out of work for some time now but admits he’s looking for his next role. If Neil Lennon does go this season, he certainly would be someone if interest.

There’s an obsession with a lot of Celtic fans that a manager must be Celtic minded to do the job correctly. It’s an archaic way of looking of things and we must always appoint the right personnel on merit and not on sentiment.

Some believe sentiment is what’s keeping Neil in a job for the moment but not even his past triumphs will be able to save him if this dreadful run continues.
