The January window shouldn’t be as hectic as the summer window in terms of the volume of recruits but Celtic should be busy – if they’re not, the breaks get well and truly slammed on this rebuild.

As a team, we must stay focused and make sure we’re still in a title race by the time January rolls around. If we can manage that, bringing in first team players could be a pivotal moment for the club and Ange.

Some fans are sceptical the board will get their chequebook out and invest more money in the rebuild in January. The perception of the Celtic board is they don’t like to spend money.

Speaking to GO Radio football show on Wednesday evening, former Celtic player Davie Provan claimed Celtic have the money to strengthen ‘significantly’ in the window:

‘Celtic have the money, they got good money for Ajer, Frimpong – for Edouard, there’s money there for Postecoglou to go strengthen Celtic significantly in the window’

Provan also claimed their rivals don’t have the cash to spend, meaning if Celtic do their business right in January, there will be a proper title race on.

The feeling among his broadcast partner Barry Ferguson is that the Ibrox club would have to sell one of their best players for a significant fee in January to be able to spend.

Provan is convinced it’s where Celtic have the edge.

Verdict

This should excite Celtic fans. If the board back the manager robustly in January, it could set us up for the next 18 months to two years.

On the flip side of the coin, if they fail to come up with the goods, Celtic will toil. It’s a pivotal month for business in a notoriously difficult period to get transfers done.
