Former Celtic player and pundit – Davie Provan has admitted he would be ‘surprised’ to see summer deadline day signing Giorgos Giorgos Giakoumakisinvolved in tonight’s European tie against Bayer Leverkusen.

Ange Postecoglou gave the Greek striker an outside chance to make his first appearance for the club in tonight’s Europa League fixture.

However, speaking on Go Radio, Provan stated that after picking up an injury in the warm-up before the Hoops cup fixture against Raith Rovers last week, he would be surprised to see Giakoumakis play a part this evening.

“I have got to say I am surprised that Giakoumakis is in the frame at all.

“A calf injury is quite similar to hamstring; you can’t really take any chances with it as you are not really sure when it is going to go again.

“Normally, you will give yourself an extra week when you feel okay to make sure that you are okay.

“I am surprised that he is in the frame for tomorrow evening [tonight].”

Celtic fans have been awaiting the opportunity to see the former VVV-Venlo striker make his debut for the club amidst the injury issues we have faced.

After finally getting up to speed last week, Postecoglou suffered yet another injury blow when Giakoumakis pulled up with a knock.

Thankfully, it was not as bad as first feared, and he edges closer to pulling on the Green and White Hoops.

In such a busy winter period, every player in Ange’s squad will be crucial. So, fingers crossed, if it isn’t tonight, it won’t be too long before the 26-year old makes his debut.
