Former Sky Sports pundit, Charlie Nicholas believes Celtic need a rebuild and in order to do that they must sell some of their biggest assets as soon as possible.

Nicholas talks about Olivier Ntcham, Kristoffer Ajer and Odsonne Edouard leaving the club as soon as possible so Celtic can make some decent cash.

The pundit did warn Celtic would have to try and push Eddy’s price up as much as possible because they already paid £9m for Eddy and Nicholas also claims PSG have a whopping 40% sell-on fee.

“The sale of the 23-year-old would put significant funds back into the coffers for a rebuild under Neil Lennon’s successor.” Nicholas wrote in his Express column, as cited by SunSport.

“The problem Celtic have is that they’d need to get a sizeable offer to make any real money on the man they forked out a club record £9m for in 2018.

“That’s because Edouard’s former club Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly due a 40 per cent sell-on fee.

“I know Celtic can’t sell all their main assets in this window but I would also consider offers for Ryan Christie, Kristoffer Ajer and Jeremie Frimpong.

“These players look unlikely to commit to the club over the longer term, so Celtic should look to maximise their money on them.

“I believe Ajer has been Celtic’s best player by a mile, but I would still sell the Norwegian defender as his value is only going to drop.

“In terms of players coming in, I don’t see any point in Celtic doing business before the close of the window.

“They’d be as well keeping any money to give the next manager the best chance of competing with Rangers again.”

If a 40% sell-on fee is accurate, the club are not going to get a lot of return for their investment on the Frenchman. The transfer market has crashed somewhat and we saw for former Celtic hero, Moussa Dembele head to Atletico for £34m when the permanent transfer finally goes through in the summer. That price down significantly from what Lyon were looking for before the pandemic.

Nicholas believes if Celtic can clear £25m for the player, it’s good business. But it doesn’t give Celtic a massive profit if PSG are getting a large chunk of it.

It could soften the blow if PSG were entitled to 40% of the profit alone which would mean the French club get 40% AFTER Celtic take their £9m back.

A rebuild is needed and the more money we can put in the coffers – the better.
