Former Celtic goalkeeper and current pundit Alan Rough has singled out central defender Kristoffer Ajer for criticism after Celtic’s poor defensive performances in recent weeks.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer, Rough was critical of the defence as a whole but felt Kristoffer Ajer, in particular, was having a very poor spell, describing his decision making as ‘all over the place’.

“I think it’s [Celtic’s shaky defence] there for everybody to see.

“I am sure Neil Lennon will be scratching his head as well as these were defenders last year everybody was raving about and now they can’t defend for their lives at all.

“Every one of them is culpable, particularly Ajer for me, I just can’t understand.

“This was a boy that a lot of big clubs were looking at, but his decision making is all over the place.

“He doesn’t even look like a centre-half now.”

Celtic have been conceding goals left, right and centre this season, having already lost 13 goals in the league. In comparison, the whole of last season, Neil Lennon’s side conceded 19.

Ajer was the centre to a lot of transfer speculation in the summer, with AC Milan reportedly having an interest in the player.

It would be unfair to say Ajer is at fault for all our defensive performances this season but with how poor we have been, you wouldn’t think it’s the sort of form of a top Serie A defender.
