Tam McManus claims Dundee could cut their losses in January when it comes to Leigh Griffiths.

The striker was moved out on loan to Dundee after signing a one-year extension with Celtic. The club gave Griffiths ones last chance but he continues to court controversy and the decision was made he shouldn’t stick around.

Dundee thought they had gained themselves a massive asset in Leigh by signing the player on-loan for the whole season, but it’s not panned out that way so far.

Speaking to The PLZ Football Show Tam McManus believes Dundee might want to end the loan deal earlier than scheduled : “30 years old now and he’s not had the impact a lot of people thought he would have at Dundee.

“He’s still quite a young man. He should be coming to his peak. For me, it was between 28 and 32 as a striker you’re getting into your peak.

“He’s in the middle of his peak years and he’s not getting a game for Dundee, so he’s got no chance of getting a game for Celtic.

“McPake will be looking at it and going ‘right do I stick with him until the end of the season, or do I send him back and try to get somebody else in’.

“So it will be interesting to see what he does but he’s not had that impact that everybody thought he would have.

“There’s always going to be somebody that will take a punt on him. A manager round about the bottom of the league that will think ‘by the way, we can get the best out of him’.”

As far as we’re aware, there’s no break in the loan deal. The frontman is unlikely to head back to Celtic in January. The only way that would happen is if Dundee want rid and another club fancy loaning Leigh for the final six months of his Hoops deal.

There was a time when Leigh was outstanding for Celtic but that ship has sailed.

Regardless of what happens in the next six months, the former Scotland international will not be a Celtic player come the summer.

It’s an anti-climactic end to the striker’s time at Parkhead – but he only has himself to blame.

Celtic have a new hero in Kyogo Furuhashi and Ange Postecoglou is looking to add to his forward line in January.
