Since the news broke over the weekend about Rafa Benitez and his departure from China, there has been a clamour from a lot of the Celtic support for the club to go out and get the Spaniard.

However, it’s wishful thinking in its purest. We understand Celtic have no plans to talk to Benitez in the near future and that’s backed up by many reports in the media who also claim Benitez is not looking for a move to Celtic.

The Independent claims the Champions League winning manager wants a job down south. They even claim Rafa has his eyes on the Leicester job at some point if former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was to move on.

That looks less likely now because Rodgers was being linked with a return to Chelsea but it’s looking likely Frank Lampard will be replaced at Stamford Bridge by Thomas Tuchel.

Let’s be clear, the Celtic fans are thinking big, the current Celtic board are not.

They want a man in charge who has some standing in the game but has not set the world alight yet. Not quite Ronny Deila but not aspiring for a Rafa or a Howe.
