The breaking story this afternoon in football is the departure of Rafa Benitez from his job in the Chinese Super League.

Benitez has now cut ties with Dalian and is looking to get straight into management.

Neil Lennon will not be the Celtic manager come next season, and the board have a big decision to make. Do they go for a low key managerial appointment, or do they make a statement?

If Desmon wanted to make a statement, this would be the way to do it. If the club could land a guy like Benitez, it would signal intent. However, we’re not sure the board share the aspirations of the support.

Paul John Dykes of the outstanding ACSOM podcast revealed this week in his daily podcast, Celtic and Benitez have crossed paths in the not so distant past but at the time, there wasn’t a deal to be done.
