Celtic will learn a lot about the strength of their squad and the mentality of it on the run-in to a winter break. November and December will be testing times for Neil Lennon as the games come thick and fast with three games in a week.

In between now and then there is a trophy up for grabs and the chance to win a place for European footballs knockout stages next year. One ex-Celt who knows all about doing nine-in-a-row and playing European football is Davie Hay.

Davie has used is Evening Times slot to discuss if the Europa League is really a priority for fans and Neil Lennon while the chance of nine in a row looms.

Hay still feels Celtic have the best players in Scotland but Gerrard’s men will present Celtic with their toughest challenge yet to another consecutive title.

“Steven Gerrard’s men are undoubtedly stronger this season, and they will pose the biggest threat yet to Celtic’s domestic dominance since the whole title-winning run kicked off.”

“I still maintain that Celtic have the better players overall and the better team, and I think Rangers are still suspect defensively, but you can’t deny that they have a frontline that are really firing at the minute. The goal difference between the sides, for example, is already a minor concern.”

Most Celtic fans are not denying the Ibrox team have improved but how many of their players would honestly make it into a Celtic starting eleven?
