CELTIC’S final signing of the 2019 summer window was a man who was linked with a move to Glasgow very late on deadline day.
Celtic’s interest in Manchester Utd’s Lee O’Connor escalated quite quickly on early Monday evening. We reported the player was set to sign for Celtic around 6:30pm on deadline day. It took up until 11:50pm for the signing to be announced to the fans.
With the signing coming out of nowhere on deadline day it has left many Celtic fans asking who exactly is this bhoy and why have Celtic signed him.
We spoke exclusively to the @NewManUtdnews who has been watching the player develop through the ranks at Old Trafford and gave us the lowdown on Lee
“He can play anywhere across the defence and midfield” NMU told Celtsarehere.
“Lee has captained the under-18s/19s and 23s at various points in his United career”
“He’s also captained Ireland at youth level and was given a call up to the senior squad last season”
On why the player has decided to cut ties with Manchester Utd in favour of Celtic – NMU made it clear it’s because the player is ready for first-team action and the emergence of duo Williams and Laird at Old Trafford has forced the player’s hand to head elsewhere.
“He’s certainly ready for the first team”
“Lee never complains, always works hard, he will be a big miss personally”
It sounds as if the player is ready to come in and make an impact. Considering Celtic have had their injury problems – if Ajer and Jozo are still struggling after the international break – O’Connor could come in and get some game time over the next month. He sounds like an exciting signing.
