Sergio Canale, Real Betis’ attacking midfielder, is outraged after his side faced Granada on Monday, while Celtic played their league game more than 48 hours prior. Betis won 2-1 on Monday night against midtable side Granada, although the team do currently sit just one place above the relegation zone. After a mediocre start to the season, drawing to Mallorca and Cadiz before losing to Real Madrid, the side sits ninth in La Liga.

The former Real Madrid player’s blame lies with the Spanish Football Association.

“It certainly does not help us having to play so late on a Monday night before we have to play Celtic on Thursday.

“There is so little time between the games and it’s something La Liga must look at and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Although, boss Manuel Pellegrini stands firm in his claim that the nighttime away fixture, that rewarded the team with their first three points of the season, does not have any effect on Celtic’s visit on Thursday night.

“Winning is almost important no matter who the next game is against. If we had lost this game, it wouldn’t have had any impact against Celtic either.

“Thursday is a new game in a different competition where three points are the objective.

Even if we had beaten Real Madrid there, it wouldn’t have changed how we approach the next game. We play to win always.”

It is now just 48 hours until Ange Postecoglou’s side embark on their Europa League campaign. All concerned with the club hope that progression in Europe will be achieved despite the toughness of the group Celtic have been drawn.
