Moritz Jenz had a near-perfect debut against Ross County on Saturday afternoon; a clean sheet was all that was missing.

He wasn’t tested defensively but always looked alert and was comfortable on the ball.

Postecoglou was impressed with what he saw, especially the dominance in the air from the German.

6th August 2022; Victoria Park, Dingwall, Scotland, Scottish Premier league football, Ross County versus Celtic FC; New Celtic signing Moritz Jenz

Speaking after the match to BBC Sportsound, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou admitted he was pleased with his new Bhoy’s performance, saying;

“It was great. I think his overall performance was really good.

“He’s fit in really well with the group and is training really well. I’m happy to give him his opportunity today. I thought him and Cam had a different sort of game where they didn’t get challenged too much defensively but had to really be on the ball when we had it.

“I thought he was really good and it was great for him to get his goal. He was really dominant in the air and hopefully it’s one of many.”

Jenz’s Celtic Challenge

Jenz will look to push his way into the team, but with Stephen Welsh playing well and Starfelt returning from injury, it won’t be easy for him.

On the back of this match, he’ll need to work his socks off in training to show Ange Postecoglou why he should start against Kilmarnock next weekend.

It’s doubtful that Starfelt will start at Rugby Park; Postecoglou will be cautious with the plastic pitch. He won’t want to risk the Swedish international unnecessarily. Jenz could use this chance to impress the manager again and boost his chances for the future.
