Celtic fans now know what the bhoys will be up against as they begin the defence of their SPFL trophy. The fixtures have been released on Friday morning and it throws up one anomaly.

Celtic are scheduled to play The Rangers on a Saturday. Usually we would caveat that particular fixture by saying it could be moved to the Sunday as is tradition with Sky Sports. However, this move will be very unlikely.

The Hoops have guaranteed Champions League football and will play their first fixture on 6/7 September. It means the SPFL fixture before wouldn’t be moved to the Sunday. The Champions League group stage draw is on August 25 – even if Celtic had a Wednesday game schedule after the draw – it would be very late in the day to shift it.

The bhoys kick off against an Aberdeen side looking to put the misery of last season behind them. For Ange Postecoglou and his squad, they will have an entire, uninterrupted pre-season before the league begins.

The advantages of winning last season’s title means the Bhoys have no qualifiers and can focus on fitness and Ange’s system.

We head back to Kilmarnock for the first time in two years after the club got relegated during the lockdown season.

It’s all getting exciting again! We’ve had a month without Celtic already and I think we’re all ready to get back into it.
