Celtic feel in no man’s land when it comes to their goalkeeping options.
Barkas has been dropped by the Celtic manager but Scott Bain doesn’t seem like the answer. it’s a far cry from last season when we had Fraser Forster back in goals.
It had led to many fans on our social media pages imploring the club to get a deal done for Fraser in January for the second half of the season; this gave way to Football Insider looking into a potential deal come the new year.
The website writes:
“But a recruitment source has told Football Insider that a combination of Forster’s extraordinary Southampton contract and the English team’s need to replace him if he were to leave make a Celtic January swoop “unlikely” at this stage”
For what it’s worth, we don’t think anybody has seen the best of Barkas yet but he’s fighting a losing battle at the moment trying to convince Celtic fans and the manager he is the right man for the number one spot.
Fraser’s wage packer, according to Spotrac, is £70kpw. A figure Celtic would never have gotten close to during loan negotiations last season and even in the summer when they thought Fraser was on his way back.
