UEFA has confirmed the match officials for Celtic’s must-win game against Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday night at Celtic Park.

After Saturday’s 2-1 win over Kilmarnock at Celtic Park, the Hoops will look to secure a spot in the Champions League knockout playoffs with a win on Wednesday. A victory would take Celtic to 12 points, almost guaranteeing a place in the next round, depending on results around Europe on Tuesday and Wednesday, with Rohit Saggi taking charge of proceedings.

Match Officials:

  • Assistant Referee 1 (AR1): Morten Jensen
  • Assistant Referee 2 (AR2): Anders Olav Dale
  • Fourth Official: Kristoffer Hagenes
  • VAR: Marco Di Bello
  • AVAR: Benjamin Brand

Saggi previously refereed at Ibrox in 2023 for Rangers’ 1-1 draw against Aris Limassol in the Europa League. Where he handed out a yellow card to Sam Lammers and six to Limassol players.

The Norwegian was also the fourth official at Celtic Park in 2019 for Celtic’s 3-1 win over Rennes, with Lewis Morgan, Ryan Christie, and Mikey Johnston all getting on the scoresheet.

Wednesday night will mark his first time taking charge of a Celtic game and only his third-ever Champions League match as referee.

His two previous games this season in the Champions League were Sturm Graz’s 1-0 win over Girona at home on November 27th, where he handed out a yellow card to each team, and Bologna’s 0-0 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk in Bologna, where he issued two yellow cards to Bologna and four to Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Ukrainian champions were awarded a penalty by Saggi just a minute into the game.

It will certainly be a big night for Celtic as they look to make history by reaching the next round of the Champions League. It will also be significant for Saggi, who won’t want to be the main talking point of the game in just his third match as a referee in the Champions League.
