It was back in May, Celtic released defender Jozo Simunovic from his contract. There was surprise at the move because when Celtic announced Jozo’s last contract extension, they reported it was a four-year deal. In reality, it was a three-year deal with the club having an option of a fourth; this was not communicated.

Regardless, Jozo was out, and surprised to be left high and dry by the club. Three months down the line and reports today suggest the Croatian is closing in on a move to Turkey.

The defender has agreed terms with Trabzonspor according to RecordSport, where the 26-year-old will look to revive his career.

Celtic are still in the process of trying to replace the centre-back in this window, with no joy so far.

Jozo was in and out of the team with injuries, he did his part during his time at the club but there’s not a big sense Celtic should have held onto the player.

We wish him well in the future and hope he hits the ground running elsewhere.
