Released by Celtic at the end of May, it looks like Jonny Hayes won’t be a free agent for long with the player in high demand.

According to RecordSport, the Irishman has been reunited with some of his old Aberdeen teammates via zoom chat and things are well underway for the winger to re-sign for the Dons.

Hayes played a big part in Celtic’s nine in a row season – becoming a utility man for the Celtic manager, putting in a shift whenever needed.

With the pandemic and shutdown hitting hard, players who may have been kept on by the club have been released instead to bring down the wage bill.

Celtic also released Jozo Simunovic, deciding not to invoke his one-year contract extension.

Hayes made a name for himself at Aberdeen, winning player of the year in his final season to earn a move to Celtic.

If the player does sign for Aberdeen, you can bet he will be a thorn in our side next season.

  1. Players like Jonny Hayes are few and far between. A good utility player is worth a punt. We had one and let him go? I didn’t see the need to release Jonny so soon, after getting back to full fitness. Good in the tackle, and fast on the wing, he had it in abundance. Sad to see him go.

  2. Totally agree George-from a pretty slow start to his Celtic career, he became an important player last season and easily our best left back-it was a no-brainer to extend his contract-He was obviously popular with the players-it just feels like penny pinching-maybe if we stopped wasting money on “projects” like 5m on Klimala/Soro (are they still here?!) Jonny would still be at Celtic
