It has been a long summer for Cristian Gamboa after Celtic released him at the end of last season. The right-back never made the grade at Celtic Park after being brought in by Brendan Rodgers during the Irishman’s first season.

Gamboa played second fiddle to Mikael Lustig his entire Celtic career and was used sparingly.

The Costa Rican star has been careful about his next move but it looks like he’s finally found a new home.

VFL Bochum confirmed a two-year deal this morning with the defender and Gamboa will now ply his trade in the second tier of German football.

Gamboa was part of a defensive exodus at Celtic Park with Emilio Izaguirre, Mikael Lustig, Dedryck Boyata, Filip Benkovic and Jeremy Toljan all leaving after their deals expired. Kieran Tierney left the club for a record fee to Arsenal to compound Celtic’s defensive woes.

The club are still actively looking for full-backs as we enter the last week of the transfer window.

  1. By the way, I don’t agree with you about him being a flop.
He has proved that also by ending up in the Bundesliga, which is a much better league than ours.
