Reliable Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided fans with a positive update over Celtic’s pursuit of central defender Carl Starfelt.

Romano first reported of the Hoops transfer links with Starfelt earlier in the week and, speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, has now suggested that the club are ‘really close’ to signing the Swedish defender as they continue negotiations.

He said: “Carl Starfelt is an interesting centre-back and he’s really close to joining Celtic. They are in negotiations with Rubin Kazan. They are working to find an agreement with the player but they are confident.”

Ange Postecoglou seems keen to add defensive options to his side, which are much needed as we prepare for the 2021/22 competitive campaign.

With only a handful of first-team central defensive options and looking likely that Norweigan Kristoffer Ajer will be moving on soon, Starfelt feels like the ideal replacement.

He would add experience at the back to play alongside the likes of Christopher Jullien or Stephen Welsh at this stage.

With this positive news that seems to suggest we are well along the line with this deal, hopefully, we can see even more progress in the coming days.
