Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate has revealed he has had ‘personal conversations’ with Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu amidst his continual lack of international game time.
The 26-year-old once again travelled to the Far East and back this international break and didn’t get any minutes.
Despite remaining fit and able to play for his country, Hatate stayed on the bench for World Cup qualifying matches against Saudi Arabia and Australia.
The midfielder has realistic ambitions of going to the USA for the World Cup in a few years, but his current lack of international minutes isn’t helping him.
Due to his continual benchings for Japan, Hatate sought to speak to his manager, Hajime Moriyasu.
He spoke one-on-one with the 56-year-old and highlighted his World Cup ambitions.
“I won’t say what it is, but I have had personal conversations about my situation with the manager,” revealed Hatate (Glasgow Times).
“I want to help the national team as much as possible if I do get to play.
“Of course I want to be in the team, but my top priority is doing whatever it takes to help us win and get to the World Cup Finals.
“And I will do whatever it takes to get there.”
Although Hatate’s international ambitions are apparent, he must also perform at Celtic.
No one doubts the midfielder’s talent and ability, although he could show it on a more consistent basis.
There would be no better time for Hatate to come to the fore for the Hoops than in the next few weeks when they face a gruelling run of importance.
Things kick off this weekend when high-flying Aberdeen come to Parkhead in a top-of-the-table Scottish Premiership clash.
Both sides have perfect domestic records so far this campaign. Something has to give on Saturday.
