Last summer Celtic signed Greek international Vasilis Barkas for a reported fee of £4.5 million after failing to secure the return of Fraser Forster.

Barkas made his debut in a 1-1 draw at Rugby Park but was later dropped from the starting XI in late October.

The Greek goalie has so far struggled to cement a place in the team with Scott Bain and Conor Hazard both above the 27-year-old in the pecking order at some points over the course of the season.

SunSport is reporting AEK Athens are willing to waive part of the fee for the 6-foot 4-inch keeper to sign french midfielder Olivier Ntcham.

The Greek club is considering lowering the transfer fee owed or removing any potential add ons. By doing so the Greek giants will hope to encourage Celtic to sell Ntcham for below their valuation.

The Celtic midfielder has just returned from a torrid loan spell with Marseille, playing 207 minutes out of a possible 1620 featuring in 6 matches. Marseille had an option to buy the midfielder for around £4.5 million but did not take up this option.

It’s clear that Ntcham does not want to be at Celtic for much longer, with rumours he has been pushing for a move out of Glasgow over the past few transfer windows.

It is understood that Celtic have the option to terminate Ntcham’s contract on the last year of his deal, but despite rumours, this looks unlikely as there remains interest in the 25-year-old.

Overall, this could be good business for Celtic not only does it free up some wages for this summers overhaul but eases pressure on Barkas who has still to impress many.
