CELTIC STRIKER Giorgos Giakoumakis is reportedly set to sign for Japanese side Urawa this week in what’s being touted as a €4m deal.
The Greek forward who came on and scored Celtic’s second goal in the Hampden semi-final looks set to quite the Parkhead club after just 18-months in Glasgow.
Fabrizio Romano reports the deal is set to be concluded but hasn’t ruled out a last minute intervention by MLS side Atlanta to bring Giakoumakis to the U.S.
Celtic fans have been aware of the rumours surrounding the Celtic striker in recent times. Multiple reports over the past six weeks have cited lack of first team game time and better remuneration for his Celtic stance.
There’s no doubt Giakoumakis made a massive contribution to Celtic’s title winning season after getting fit. Celtic fans like Giorgos for his brilliant one touch finished and his arrogance. He famously told the media Celtic would win the league last season well before they did.
If this is the end for the striker at Parkhead, he’s signed off with a goal that ensured Celtic’s place in the final of the League Cup.
It seems to be the same amount that it will take to bring Szymon Wlodarczyk from Gornik Zabrze. Maybe we are rushing this through to get Szymon in quickly. Could be good all round if the young Polish lad is a promising as he sounds!
