Celtic star Callum McGregor is reportedly set to commit his future to the club as he is in line to become the successor to Scott Brown as club captain.

According to Football Insider, the 27-year could be set to remain at Celtic for the rest of his career even despite interest in the past from the likes of Leicester City who won’t have gone away, outlining himself as the next natural captain of the club.

This season, we have seen Brown drop out of a lot of games with McGregor filling in as captain. He has also done a lot more press duties this year, whether that be pre or post-match.

In a way, it feels like he could be getting prepared for the role and he certainly feels like the correct man to take that armband if he is willing to stay for years to come.

As a product of the Celtic academy, it would be a brilliant achievement to see him become captain and he has been on an incredible rise in the last few years.

There will be no better man to learn his stuff off of than Brown himself, it just feels like it’s a matter of time at this stage.

  1. No surprise-he has been poor since Brendan left so where else would he go?
Ridiculously overrated and has already shown he’s nothing like captain material.
No wonder he wants to stay, where else would he be guaranteed a place in the team regardless of form?

  2. Callum McGregor is a superb player, who is just the type of young man we want leading the club. I suspect “moonshot” isn’t what he appears to be, a Celtic man. Words like this ‘ridiculously overrated’ do not apply to Callum. He is RIDICULOUSLY UNDERRATED. Unlike his mob over the road in Govan, whose whole team is OVERRATED.

  3. Another taken in by “Golden Boy’!
Open your eyes, Dont know what you have been watching all season but anyone watching Celtic would see McGregor has no leadership skills and is anonymous in Sevco & European games when he should be dominating-he’s not a youngster anymore.
Needs to pull the finger out
