HIBS is set to sign Johnny Kenny next month after talks with the striker progressed with the Sligo Rovers player. He was in attendance midweek for Hibs 1-0 win over Dundee the independent reports.

Celtic were also interested in bringing the player to Scotland and considering activating his release clause of £130,000 in the January transfer window. Despite being managerless, it is likely that Kenny’s destination will be the capital.

Hopefully Celtic won’t be kicking themselves in a few years’ time when Kenny breaks through into the Hibs team.

From the player’s perspective, it was a sensible choice to choose Celtic’s cup final opponents. In recent years Celtic have signed prospects but there has been no clear path to the first team. This has seen players run their contracts down while out on loan before leaving the club for free.

It is a shame as Celtic could utilize this market and build a successful and sustainable transfer model.

However, this does not look likely to change with summer signings Shaw and Urhoghide playing just once each for the first team.
