Reports have surfaced suggesting that Louie Barry, a January target for Celtic, would prefer a move to England despite interest from the Hoops. Celtic had reportedly made a bid in the region of £5 million plus add-ons for the highly-rated youngster. However, competition is fierce, with clubs in England and France also pursuing Barry, who appears to have options on the table. Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday and RC Lens are rumoured to be in pursuit of the young winger.

Barry’s preference for a move within England could prove a stumbling block for Celtic, as he may be keen to remain closer to home while seeking regular game time.

Rising Stock After Stockport Loan

Barry, who is contracted to Aston Villa, made a significant impact at Stockport during his loan spell, with his performances bolstering his reputation as one of the brightest young talents in the game. The former Barcelona youth graduate scored 15 goals in 23 league one games at Stockport.

Celtic’s Challenge

For Celtic, missing out on Barry would be a setback as they look to add more attacking depth for the second half of the season. While the Hoops have shown willingness to invest heavily in the 21-year-old, the player’s reported preference for England could force the club to look elsewhere in the closing stages of the transfer window.

With the clock ticking, it remains to be seen whether Celtic can convince Barry to move north of the border or if the winger opts for a move that keeps him closer to home.
