According to a report from The Scottish Sun, Celtic winger Daizen Maeda has missed on Friday after picking up an injury while on international duty with Japan.

The 27-year-old was forced to withdraw from Japan’s squad ahead of their friendly with Brazil after feeling discomfort in his left foot.

The report claims that Maeda has yet to return to full training at Lennoxtown since flying back to Glasgow, raising fresh concerns over his availability for the upcoming Premiership clash with Dundee.

It’s understood that Celtic’s medical team will assess the player further before a final decision is made on whether he’ll feature at the weekend against Dundee. While early indications suggest the issue isn’t considered major, the timing is far from ideal with a packed schedule ahead — including league fixtures and crucial Europa League games.

Maeda has been a key player under Brendan Rodgers, combining tireless pressing with his trademark pace and work rate down the left flank. His absence would leave a noticeable gap in Celtic’s forward line, particularly given the team’s reliance on his energy in both attack and defence.

Rodgers will be hoping the issue proves minor, with Maeda among the most dependable players in the squad. Losing him for any spell would be a serious blow, particularly with the Hoops already managing a few injury concerns across the squad.

Simply put, fans will be crossing their fingers for positive news. Celtic’s season has been built on rhythm and intensity, and few players embody that more than Daizen Maeda.
