Report: Go Ahead Eagles ‘Stand Firm’ in Jakob Breum Transfer Standoff

Celtic’s pursuit of Jakob Breum is turning into one of the more drawn-out sagas of the summer window, with Go Ahead Eagles refusing to budge on their valuation of the 21-year-old winger.

Journalist Anthony Joseph reports that the Eredivisie club are holding firm at a minimum £5 million asking price. Celtic have already tested their resolve twice, but both bids have been rejected, the most recent an offer of £2.6 million.

Breum, a Danish youth international, has built a strong reputation in the Netherlands over the past 18 months. Comfortable playing centrally or drifting into wider areas, he has impressed with his technical ability, quick feet, and willingness to take on defenders.

His direct style and knack for unlocking defences have inevitably attracted interest from clubs beyond the Eredivisie.

Celtic are keen to add more attacking creativity to Brendan Rodgers’ squad ahead of a busy campaign that will include Champions League qualifiers.

The Hoops see Breum as a player who can make an immediate impact while also offering significant long-term potential. However, the current gulf between the two clubs’ valuations is the main stumbling block.

Negotiations remain active, and reports suggest Celtic have not walked away from the deal. While the Hoops may be reluctant to meet the full £5 million figure, there is room for structured payments or performance-related add-ons to bridge the gap.

Go Ahead Eagles, however, are in a strong position to hold out for their price, with Breum under contract and showing no public signs of agitating for a move.

With just weeks left in the window, Celtic must decide whether to raise their bid significantly or turn attention to alternative targets.

For now, Breum remains the club’s preferred option in this area of the pitch, but unless movement comes soon, the deal risks dragging into deadline day, a scenario that rarely favours the buying club.
