Major Japanese newspaper Sponochi has printed that a deal to take Giorgos Giakoumakis to the J-League is now in place.

The snippet in the sports section of their newspaper claims a deal was struck on Friday. It also claims the player will head to Japan in the coming days to undergo a medical and put the finishing touches on a deal to sign for Urawa.

Ange Postecoglou told the media on Friday afternoon he had not been informed of a deal for any of his players as of yet after specifically being asked about Giakoumakis. [Celtic TV]

Until there’s confirmation from the Celtic end of things or from a credible source in Glasgow, we should always take these reports with a pinch of salt, although they appear pretty sure of themselves.

It’s no secret Giak wants away from the club to earn more money and be considered a first team striker somewhere. If he is to go to Japan, the figures floated for his transfer will be good enough for Celtic to go reinvest.
