A report from French outlet Le Parisien has claimed that Rennes are on the verge of signing Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi for a fee of €12m.

According to Le Parisien, the Ligue 1 side have been tracking the Japanese international for several weeks, with manager Jorge Sampaoli reportedly keen to strengthen his attack.

The report suggests that Rennes and Celtic have reached an agreement for the transfer and even goes as far as to say that Kyogo played his final game for the Hoops on Wednesday night during their 1-0 win against Young Boys in the Champions League.

The rumoured €12m fee would make Furuhashi Rennes’ third signing of the January transfer window, following the arrivals of goalkeeper Brice Samba and midfielder Seko Fofana.

At the time of writing, there’s been no official word from Celtic or credible Scottish sources to back up these claims. Kyogo remains under contract at Celtic Park until 2027, having signed a long-term extension last year.

It’s also worth noting that the player has been a key figure in Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, contributing 12 goals and four assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.

While the timing of the report may raise eyebrows, especially so soon after a crucial European fixture where Celtic reached the knockout rounds of the Champions League, fans will be rightly sceptical until more concrete information emerges.

Although French media has proven accurate in the past regarding moves to Ligue 1, Celtic fans should approach this story with caution. For now, Kyogo remains a Celtic player, and without confirmation from reliable sources closer to the club, this report feels more speculative than definitive.

We’ll continue to monitor this story.
