With Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn each starting on the wing against Bayern Munich last night at Celtic Park, Europe saw Celtic’s first-choice wingers take on Vincent Kompany’s side.

Nicolas Kuhn would have a goal ruled out for an apparent offside from Adam Idah after 25 seconds, with Daizen Maeda getting on the scoresheet in the second half from a Celtic corner.

Celtic’s wingers have been the heart of the team all season, with a consistent goal threat from the pair, and this has seemingly led to interest from one team across the border.

The Daily Mail reports that Newcastle United had scouts at last night’s game, watching Kuhn, having previously watched the German winger earlier this season.

Kuhn has stepped up this season. Having joined in January 2024, he has gone from a doubted player to a contender for Celtic and Scottish Player of the Year, alongside Maeda.

Kuhn’s value is reported to be a minimum of £20 million, but given the money Celtic received for Matt O’Riley last summer, the Hoops may look to push for a fee closer to that of O’Riley, considering Kuhn’s performances in the Champions League, which have significantly raised his transfer value.

A winger who can create and score goals is something that every team across Europe is desperate for. Given Kuhn’s ability to not only take players out of the game and the riches of Newcastle in the English Premier League, Celtic may want a club-record transfer fee for a player who has shown why he was signed by Brendan Rodgers 10 months ago.
