Sportske.jutarnji have tonight reported Hajduk Split left Mario Vuskovic out of the starting XI against Greek opposition in a friendly on Sunday because the defender is ‘preparing for the transfer to Celtic’.

Hadjuk Split beat Aris 3-1 in the pre-season friendly without the help of their top defender.

It has been rumoured for a couple of weeks now that Celtic have been interested in Mario. The defender made 39 league appearances for Hajduk last season and has become integral to them.

If the Hoops are in for him, Sportske seems to believe it’s close to being wrapped up.

The site wrote: Gustaffson sent the nominally first team to the pitch from the first minute, omitting Vušković, who is preparing for the transfer to Celtic.

If Celtic sign Mario, it would be another young defender coming into the club but the centre-back would have more experience than Osaze who has just come in from Sheffield Wednesday.

It would be giving youth a big chance and proving how much Ange Postecoglou wants high energy in his team.

Celtic are trying to press on with pre-season preparations and will be in Wales this week to take part in a pre-season training camp.

During their time down south, they will participate in three friendlies, one of which will be played this Wednesday against Sheffield Wednesday. The game will be live on the Celtic pass for season ticket holders.
