It was in the final day of the summer window when Celtic brought in defender Lee O’Connor from Manchester Utd. The Irishman left the comfort of his Old Trafford youth developmental side to sign on with the Hoops.

Since then the player has made his full debut for the Ireland senior squad but he’s yet to play a professional game at club level.

Lee has been good in developmental games but Neil Lennon has resisted the opportunity to bring him into the first team squad.

SunSport are now reporting the defender will be sent out on loan to play first team games elsewhere with a view to coming back in the summer. The paper claim Celtic’s Scottish Cup opponents Partick Thistle are interested in Lee.

Logistically it would be a practical move but if we want Lee to develop he needs to be playing at a better level. A former Man Utd developmental star and huge Irish prospect – surely there are higher calibre teams who would be interested in having O’Connor for the second half of the season.
