Celtic have reportedly joined the race for wanted Coventry City and Dutch youth international midfielder Gustavo Hamer.

The 24-year old has impressed during his two-year stay with the English Championship so far, making 73 appearances overall, having left Holland where he previously played for sides such as Feyenoord and PEC Zwolle.

As reported by Football League World, this has attracted interest from the likes of Premier League sides Brentford and Leeds United, whilst also reporting that Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side have entered the race to sign the midfielder.

Hamer’s contract is set to come to an end with the Championship side in 2023, so Coventry have a decision to make in the summer whether they look to move the Dutchman on, despite attempts to try and tie him down at the club.

With recent midfield additions in January, including Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and Yosuke Ideguchi, whilst also factoring in the fact that David Turnbull is still to return to action from injury, the midfield area certainly looks stacked with players for Postecoglou’s squad.

So, it would be interesting to see what the action plan would be for the Hoops if Ange was looking to bring in another option in that area of the pitch.

  1. Can he play in defence? Is he two footed? Can Anger get him playing Centre back or Right/Left back instead of Nir Biton, when he leaves. As that’s were Celtic needs are.
