CELTIC have been linked with a move for Peterborough striker Ivan Toney over recent weeks. A rumour which doesn’t make sense if you look at the lay of the land at Celtic right now.

Unless Celtic are set to drop one of their strikers and push them out the door, there’s no reason to be in the market for a centre forward.

Regardless, Celtic have been linked with a move for the Posh star, and the fact Celtic now have former Peterborough assistant manager Gavin Strachan has intensified the rumours to some degree.

Toney scored 26 goals in 39 appearances for his side last season and he’s proving a popular player this summer.

Peterborough Director, Barry Fry has stated they want over £4m for the player and claimed New York had already offered that amount.

Peterborough United believe a 'bidding war' is possible over star ...

“My chairman is confident we will get what we want for Ivan” Fry said as cited by RecordSport.

“And that’s much more than the £4 million plus many add ons that New York offered. I was surprised by that offer as they have plenty of money.

“It’s my belief there won’t be a better striker in the country at the price we want than Ivan Toney this summer and there will be plenty of clubs trying to sign him.

“They won’t get him on the cheap though and we know his value.”

As we say, unless Celtic are looking to sell one of their strikers, in-particular Edouard or Griffiths, paying that much money for a frontman would be out of the question.

Celtic still have to see what Patryk Klimala can do for starters!
