Celtic are set to miss out on top January target Timothy Castagne after it emerged on GianlucadiMarzio that his current club has accepted an offer from Napoli.

Celtic were keen on the defender back in January with Castagne openly admitting Celtic had tried to sign him

However, the Belgium stayed put for the rest of the season with a view to assessing his situation come the summer. It appears now a Serie A stay is more likely than anything else with the defender highly sought after.

Castagne, 23, currently holds a market value of around €9m according to TransferMarkt and if the bhoys had any desire to sign him they would have to act now and pay big money without a manager in sight.

Celtic have been desperate for a fresh young right back for some time. Jeremy Toljan has come in on loan from Dortmund and not shown enough to earn a permanent deal at the club which means it’s back to the drawing board.

Celtic have Mikael Lustig until the end of the season with no indication either way if they’ll sign him up for another year with his contract finishing at the end of June.
