REPORTS today suggest Dundee are on the brink of pulling off a sensational swoop for Steven Caulker.

The former QPR man who has had his troubles with alcohol and gambling and was let go by the club last year and has been training with a number of clubs.

Celtic were linked with him last summer with QPR rebuffing any advances for their defender at the time. Since then, the player has had no game time and is in search of first team football.

Dundee look to have seized upon that and look ready to do a deal with the former Liverpool and Spurs defender.

With Celtic taking their top defender Jack Hendry, The Dees are looking for more reinforcements and believe Caulker can do the job.

Brendan Rodgers still keeps in contact with Steven and spoke very highly of him a few months back. Has Brendan played a hand in the player coming to Scotland and is the Irishman keen to keep tabs on his progress for a move further down the line? At the very least Brendan and Steven would have spoken about Scottish football.

If Dundee do pull off the deal, it will be a fantastic piece of business.
