Striker target Charlie Wyke is reportedly looking for a long-term deal when signing for Celtic.

The Sunderland frontman has been mentioned several times in the media, with it even being suggested he has held multiple talks with the hierarchy at the club.

Now, according to Football Insider, he is looking to sign a long-term four-year deal at the club this summer. The report also states that he will be looking to double his wage in Glasgow.

Salary sport has Wyke’s Sunderland wage sitting at £6.4kpw.

Whilst Wyke will, of course, be looking out for his own interests as a player, a four-year deal seems like a bit much to be handing out.

At the age of 28 and turning 29 later this year, giving him a deal until 2025 could prove to be a huge risk.

The is no doubting that his numbers in front of goal from last season were impressive, but whenever you hear about Wyke from other fans, they continue to express their concern.

  1. 30 goals a season for a paltry £13k per week. Chicken feed for a club like Celtic. If the manager wants the player, sign the player. Nothing else needs said.

  2. With the previous experiences of not signing players over trifling sums (Mc Ginn being just the latest) 13 grand a week does not seem much. Actually the minimum they would have to offer him is 10k so it is actually 3 grand we are talking about. But that is the history of Celtic. Small club pretending to be a big club, no real ambition, content with their position as number 1 or even number 2 in Scotland. The biggest problem the management have is the support. If only we would bugger off and just leave our money they would be much happier. If only it was 1921 and not 2021!

  3. As a Sunderland supporter I can say with certainty that Celtic would be making a big mistake in signing Wyke. Last season his 30 goals should have been nearer 50, the chances created by the Sunderland team were unbelievable. Wyke missed many and he was easily shut out of games, a poor player who will not be missed on Wearside.
