CELTIC have rarely landed their targets over the past three transfer windows at least and the latest news from ESPN Digital will come as no surprise to many.

According to reports from ESPN, Celtic made a bid of $6.5 million – roughly just over £5million for the defender’s services.

The centre back is now in high demand according to the same report and Celtic’s offer was rebuffed because América are looking for around £8million.

Edson Álvarez, 19, has played 46 times for his club this season and looks a very solid defender. With Celtic lacking in that department it would certainly be a great acquisition if the club were still interested in him.

Celtic have lost Filip Benkovic and Dedryck Boyata this summer with Filip heading back to Leicester and Dedryck signing with Hertha Berlin with his Celtic deal at an end.

While Jozo and Ajer stepped up in the second half of the season, they will need help come next season and with Simunovic’s injury track record the bhoys are desperately needing reinforcements.
