CELTIC have felt compelled to make a statement regarding the treatment of Oliver Burke after West Brom technical director Luke Dowling was quoted in the press calling Celtic and Neil Lennon our for mistreating the loan player.

In the statement Celtic make it clear nobody at West Brom has ever contacted them to discuss Oliver – either before the season ended or after it.

The comments from Dowling are completely classless, baseless and unprofessional from a the Championship side.

Celtic wrote: ‘These comments, which question the professionalism of both Neil and Celtic Football Club, are ridiculous and completely inaccurate. West Brom have made no contact whatsoever with either Neil or the club in relation to Oliver.

‘As with every player who comes to Celtic, Oliver received the very best of treatment and every support and opportunity. We wish Oliver the very best for the future.’

Burke was given opportunities but failed to make an impact in the latter part of the season. His performance at Ibrox a particular low for the player.

Burke started brightly enough and applied himself well but in the end he didn’t have enough to keep his place in the squad.

When a player is loaned out he is not guaranteed to play regardless and to vent in such a public forum shows utter disrespect from the club.

Celtic have did the right thing by putting the matter to bed.
