CHRIS SUTTON believes it’s too premature to be calling for Neil Lennon’s head as Celtic manager but does concede the next run of games are vital for is old pal as they get set to embark on a tough away day fixture list in the SPFL. Not only that but there will be Europa games sprinkled in among those vital ties.

The BT pundit branded anyone calling for Neil Lennon’s sacking at this point as ‘ridiculous’. Chris believes the Celtic boss has earned the right to turn things around and the fixtures coming up will determine where he lands.

“The next six games are make or break for him. If there are more major setbacks or the team doesn’t get into gear in that period, my old team-mate is going to be under big pressure and serious questions will start to get asked.” The pundit wrote in his RecordSport column.

“I do feel it is ridiculous for people to be calling for his head at the moment. That’s unfair. He’s earned the right to find the response. But what is not ridiculous and perfectly fair is to ask serious questions about what is going on at the moment or to suggest it simply cannot continue in this vein much longer if want to win the 10. They can’t let Rangers get away and open a big gap.”

It wasn’t just the result, but the performance on the day which was so hard to take. The bhoys were sleepwalking into defeat.

It wasn’t an isolated game in that respect, the bhoys have struggled to get up to scratch this term. Finding it very difficult to break down opponents but ultimately finding a way.

Saturday was a natural conclusion to our on the field form up to that point. There has to be a reboot and there’s no January break or respite to get something going.

  1. Look every time we play them now the players are out thought the manager is out thought and it looks very much like we are a very unfit but they do play to a very high standard that we can not match the manager sticks with same faces and S Brown who looks at times he has lost what ever he had he should be on bench and let others take over we spent millions on players that never got games and are now out on loan and more than likely lost now,we spent millions on players that where unfit and need months to get up to the pace come on this is the manager doing this our manager has lost it and it is time for change….

  2. If Mr lawell really cares about the club he.ll need to sort out the complacency that.s been made worse by Saturday.s feeble effort playing a well drilled side of journeymen who unlike hoops They played as a team who looked like it was a training session , our players looked lost and devoid of interaction …our recent efforts have been like pulling teeth …seems players have lost faith due to lack of confidence and keystone kops tactics from wee lenny who.s out of his depth…time for club to repair the obvious decline b4 10 becomes a farce “

  3. Couldn’t agree more the lacklustre of the whole team is so evident that teams are no longer sitting back when playing us as it’s clear there is something not right behind the scenes? You cannot win games constantly playing the ball across the back three or four, if this doesn’t change we can kiss goodbye to the ten and hand the rankers a life saving amount of money! About time Mr Lawell treated the fans as well as they have treated him, swelling his bank account by millions or step down Mr Lawell. HAIL HAIL?

  4. To be in this position against them considering where they came from is humiliating. I am of the opinion that Lawwell does not want 10 in a row. He is happy with 9 which means we are equal with them in the modern era. Lawwell is a huge ‘Old Firm’ man. He does not see Celtic as a club that can compete or should be in Europe. His refusal to invest tells us this. Every year the CL gets further away, so much so that you could say they are closer to it now. Lawwell needs Rangers, he loves Rangers and has such contempt for the supporters (well many love Rangers as well, the way they wet themselves for the so called Old Firm games-I thought they were dead?) he wants the 4 games against them because there is nothing left otherwise. Big Pete the Tory believes we are pointless without them. No man has done more to ensure the continuation of a Rangers than Peter Lawwell. A heavy defeat on Thursday will precede a defeat next Sunday and will precipitate a collapse which will see them 12-15 points in front by Christmas. By the time the crowds return, there will be 20,000 in attendance. If there was any ambition Lennon would be replaced NOW. He does not inspire the players and seems disinterested. Show some ambition, appoint a European to inject some imagination into the mix. Shake things up and provide some cash in January to fund a challenge. With Lennon we are going down in flames. Lennon and Brown are finished. Great servants but everything ends. But ending by falling just before the finishing line, knowing you should have gone is not acceptable. Both of these men know they are done and should step aside and let someone try something new.
